Over 75 Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) during the 4th quarter of the 2020-2021 school year! There were 3 kindergarten classes involved: 2 in-person classrooms and our virtual classroom. Each kindergarten student was able to choose a special adult to provide a random act of kindness to. Students began giving random acts of kindness to each other - our plan was working! This project really brought our students together, allowed them to feel a part of something bigger than our classroom, and provide joy to those giving and receiving.

Leader in Me!
The inaugural “Leader in Me” group at McKinley Elementary was an incredible success! We completed the year with 9 active leaders who made a BIG impact.
They helped guide and mentor kindergarten and 1st grade students through SEL needs, helped to foster a greater sense of community by inspiring staff to become advisors for more student activity groups - which directly impacted 40+ additional students, and they learned what leadership truly means – being of service. Additionally, the leaders had an opportunity to meet with the director of the Shalom Center, learn about ways to get involved in the community, and participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony that helped them to understand that each person can truly make a positive difference.
SOS Outreach & Brass Community School highlighted the students for participating in a ski season. Big thanks goes out to the community mentors, volunteers, Wilmot staff and Brass teachers. EFK was honored to fund this grant!
As a program/department that supports all of the 4k-5th grade students in this building but does NOT have a budget or curriculum, it is challenging to keep things fresh, exciting, and relevant. Kids are learning ways to care for themselves and others as part of the counseling program and the grant provided supplies needed to do that in a creative way.
The counseling program at Southport teaches AND applies. Using art as part of the application process really tapped into different learning modalities and increased overall attention and follow-through of skill development!
Here are some snaps of that social emotional learning growth! (From Southport Elementary)
The whole school participated in Glow Bowling! The students really enjoyed the surprise ending to our unit. Thank you EFK so much for offering us this opportunity and the many years to come of this experience for the students of Pleasant Prairie Elementary School!
Kids for the Environment!
We have finally completed most of our Outdoor Learning Space. We were excited to have students come and build our tables right before school started. This Wednesday I will be presenting to the staff on different ways they can use the Outdoor Learning Space. We have had a few classes go out to enjoy the space. This has been such an amazing gift to our Lance Community!

Despite COVID, BHS's Northside Outfitters (free clothing items in a store like environment) moved ahead. They created a commercial for the store and a way for virtual and in-person students to access the store. They are making a difference in kids lives!
